I can't figure out why they have such a low overall rating. I've been a few times now and have always been pleased. The setting as a whole isn't as nice as downtown (probably because it's in a strip mall with not too much around), but it's good enough. I ordered the lasagna and my friend got a fettucini with chicken. The portions were good enough for both of us to have leftovers. I love their lasagna, nice and meaty and not overflowing with cheese. Parking is never an issue and they have very friendly servers.

This place is horrible. I went on a Friday night with no reservations so I expected a bit of a wait. When I arrived, I was told that the wait was about 45 minutes. I decided to wait because I heard it was a great place to eat ( never again will I believe my friends that think Olive Garden is tasty). An hour twenty minutes passed before I was able to get a seat (I even saw people that came after me with no reservations get seated before I did) After seating, it took the waiter 20 minutes to come take my drink orders and another 20 minutes to bring me a bottle of cab. I ordered the fried green tomatoes and was very disappointed. The tomatoes came out very soggy and lacking in seasoning. The bread which everyone raves about is just salty bread topped with cheese. I wouldn't even call it bread, I'd call it bready cheese. The appetizer came out surprisingly fast, but the entree took another 45 minutes after I was done with my meal. I didn't know a ribeye could take so long to cook. Perhaps they had to slaughter the cow too...... Also, you would think that the flavor would be outstanding if you had that long to cook. The steak was overcooked and very under seasoned. I did not dare ask for dessert. If you add it up: 1:20 seating time 0:40 drinks and appetizer 0:45 entree Thats 2 hours 45 min just in waiting time. Total dinner time was almost 3.5 hours total. That's longer than a 6 course with pairing from Stella! I may give it another chance as I don't shun restaurants after one bad experience. But for the price I paid, it will be a very long time before I return.

There is a photograph in the men's room of a 1930's era river scene - vey cool with some old ferries and lots of old cars. Unfortunately it appears the recipes for this "italian" restaurant were lifted from the trunk of one of those 1930's cars. We attended a dinner with a group of friends - the dinner took nearly four hours which was saved by the company. The food seems a bit old and incongruous. For instance - I ordered rack of lamb which was delivered drowned in some 1960's red wine reduction, while the person across from me had Fish and Chips??? Each of course was offered with spaghetti... I would definitely opt for the nearby Ruffino's if again driving this far into the Baton Rouge and looking for some italian food.

We visited this restaurant after saying we would not return, but a family member chose to have a birthday dinner there. Reservations were at 7:00; table of 9. Dinner was brought to the table at 9:00 -- 2 hours later!! When served, someone got their steak but their baked potato arrived well after the steak was eaten. A couple of us ordered speckled trout. It was not edible as it was very overlooked and was rubbery. Considering menu prices, we will NOT be back! Our waiter was pleasant and did the best he could, but the kitchen needs a major shakeup!

I'm surprised at the low reviews since every time we have been to this restaurant they are always packed. And the filet mignon must be the best kept secret of Baton Rouge. If you are looking for a juicy, flavorful, tender melt in your mouth steak..look no further. Seriously the meat is so tender and juicy you can cut it with a butter knife. The flavor is far superior to any other steak out there- dare I say to even the biggest Ruth's fans. The steak is served with your choice of salad (the house is a delicious choice if you enjoy olives) and a side so the 35.00 is well worth every penny. And let's not forget about their bread. I have to admit I am not a bread lover and I usually will forgo any other bread offerings in other restaurants but I am more than willing to pay for a loaf of this amazing tasting bread with Parmesan cheese and oils. The gumbo is another must try and the bread pudding is out of this world. The atmosphere is warm and inviting and I love their music selections. While the majority of the servers are far superior to other restaurants there are a couple that exceeded even my high expectations. Chris is the best of the best. Warm and friendly and he will take care of you like the king or queen you believe yourself to be. We always book reservations in advance to ensure we have a booth and to request Chris as our server. They consistently provide amazing food and service-Hats off to the chefs and staff.

I've eaten at The Little Village, both locations, a few times with no issues, but tonight was a little messy. We had a group of 6 ladies and sat in the bar. The bartender told us he wasn't able to serve tables in the bar anymore and we would be waited on by a server from the dining room. It took about 10 minutes for our server, Clarence to get to us. We all asked for waters while we looked over drinks. Two waters came to the table. I had to ask twice more for water. Drinks took awhile even though there were only two other tables in the bar. Dinner went off without a hitch, minus a little spotty service, which I guess I can understand if it was a crazy busy night but it was a Tuesday.... I did notice that when we ordered "the bread" it came with roasted garlic and olive tapenade without us asking, and if I remember correctly, they are both extras that we were not asked if we wanted. A good thing about Little Village is that they carry gluten free pasta, although they don't advertise it anywhere. Food was good, drinks were good, but when I asked for my check to sneak out a little early, he ended up bringing everyone's check, even though they were not done with their drinks and were planning on ordering more. I thought my gluten free pasta w/shrimp and one glass of wine came out to be VERY expensive (my check was for $38) but gave a large tip anyway and after we had signed our bills, one of the ladies said "oh, it looks like tip was already included!".... so Clarence got around $16 in tips from each of us because we were unaware of their party/gratuity rule. Hope you enjoyed that, buddy. So I guess my okay review is based on service, not food or atmosphere. We'll probably be back as it's so close to our neighborhood, but will watch out for sneak attack tips next time!

So my family decided to go here for my step fathers birthday. We got the bread. which comes with garlic and that olive stuff. no our waiter didn't tell us that those cost extra-they just put it on the plate.The bread is really good though. between 6 people we ate the full loaf. We all got a salad. i got a caesar salad. It wasn't anything great. my mom got the sensation salad and she loved it. So i was debating on a white sauce vs. a red sauce pasta for my meal. everyone got white sauce mostly but the waiter raved about the red sauce. so i tried the eggplant parmigiana or however you spell it. Eggplant was pretty good but i wasn't a fan on the red sauce on the pasta. Everyone seemed to like what they got. my boyfriend got shrimp Alfredo. For dessert we got the white chocolate bread pudding. OMG it was great. seriously.... so great. during the meal we had a few cocktails. Loved the raspberry lemonade martini. wasn't a fan of the Bellini but my step brothers girlfriend liked it. i would only come back if a group asked me to go but i wouldnt have a date night or girls night here.

We came here for Mother's Day, with four mothers in our party. We had reservations, which meant there wasn't a long wait for them to pull our tables together and seat us in the bar area. Lunch started with Bloody Marys and Mimosas as we looked over the special menu they had prepared for the day. Village bread with tapenade and roasted garlic (both extra) was ordered to start. That was soon followed by the Sensation salad which comes with the entree. My wife ordered the Artic sea bass topped with lump crabmeat and a side vegetable. I ordered the lasagna topped with a red gravy. The food was good, nothing extraordinary. The conclusion of the meal was free white chocolate bread pudding for the mothers. The service was decent although it seemed slow, even taking into account the restaurant was full for the special day.

Food was terrible. One star because our waiter was pretty decent, even though I asked for my salad with the red vinaigrette and received the same salad my boyfriend got sans the croutons (he ordered a Caesar). Got in 45 minutes before closing and it was clear they were ready to leave. The hostess made it a point to tell us they close at ten. When our food came, my eggplant parmesan was drenched in sauce. I had to find my eggplant to decipher where that was as opposed to my spaghetti noodles. Once I finally found the eggplant, I could hardly cut through it, they were ao tough. Like they sped through the cooking process. My boyfriend ordered a ribeye steak that was so tough he was still chewing on his first bite as we left. And the side of mashed potatoes was reminiscent of hospital cuisine. He literally left more than 3/4 of that overpriced steak on the plate. No to go box. No thank you. Little village is an utter disappointment.

This is my first review. I'm not a complainer, but this needs to be heard. Was excited to try this place! I had dinner here on a Saturday night. We were told we HAD to try the bread, and so we did. It tasted good and 2 of us ate the whole half a loaf (for an extra cost- shouldn't bread be free?). Anyways, we ordered our food and now I know what the other reviews mean by it being very slow, we even took into a consideration that it was a saturday night. By the time our food came it had been 45 min or so since we ate the bread, both of our stomachs started hurting. We didn't think much of it so we ate our meals. By the end my stomach hurt so bad I couldn't even touch the side or dessert I ordered. I didn't eat much so I knew it wasn't because I overate. I just thought maybe I was getting sick. After being home for an hour or so with an upset stomach, my entire $40 dinner had made its way out of my stomach just the way it came in. I hate getting sick, but this was my only option, and sure enough I felt like a million bucks after. They say when you get sick, whatever you taste the most is probably what made you sick. Well, all I tasted was the mountain of parmesan cheese they piled on the bread. I decided later that maybe I should call and let them know, just in case they were using bad/expired cheese or oil. I asked to speak with a manager who from the beginning sounded rude. I explained what happened, and she cut me off saying it was probably something I ate before coming in. So she right away blamed the customer. Then I told her again, I was calling just so they could maybe go check. I was being nicer than she was, and she blamed me again by saying nobody else called having the same problem and that everything on their part was perfect. It was maybe a 20 second conversation tops. She was rude and very short with me. I never once blamed the restaurant, but I got blamed twice as the customer. TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE... even over the phone!!!! I will not be back. Plenty of other Italian restaurants with much better food AND service.

I usually never write reviews, but I felt compelled after last nights HORRIBLE dinner. My daughter graduated from LSU yesterday, so we had reservations for 13. Although the waiter was friendly and curtiouse, the food was horrible. The calamari appetizers had a foul smell to them like they had gone bad and most importantly there texture was way off. The raviolis also tasted like the were previously frozen and flash fried. A couple of my guest had the fish which also was not good. It really looked exactly like the Tilapia filets that Sams sells. My wife ordered the eggplant Parmesan and she actually sent it back and did not eat. Also, the asparagus on the fillet minion/soft shell crab special tasted boiled and the crab was not fried correctly. I walked away paying over $500 dollars for last nights dinner and was extremely disappointed in the quality of food. Stay away!!!!

One of the best steaks I have ever had in my life has been the Filet Palermo from Little Village. Holy yummy, is it amazing! Although I do not think it is on the actual menu any longer, they will definitely let you order it--which I highly recommend you should:) I also freaking loooove their bread and could pretty much eat that entire loaf of buttery Parmesan goodness. My husband's pasta dish was also super-yummy, along with some awesome green beans and mashed taters. We've been twice and loved the service and meals both times--definitely plan to be back again and again, as it is luckily located near our house. The atmosphere is pretty decent, kinda romantic, but nothing extraordinary, really. You are paying for the great food and service. Highly recommend!

I've eaten here twice. First time was great , second time was a nightmare. I built this place up, and they quickly proved me wrong to my guests. My date, my childhood friend , and his date were all looking forward to a nice meal , and good conversation . We were seated quickly, and our order was taken. All 4 drinks came at different times , of 3 appetizers, one was forgotten , one was cold. After forgetting our second round of drinks , the waiter brought our food at different times. Once again forgetting 3 of the 4 orders of garlic mashed potatoes. The worst 400$ service I've ever had. Will not be back since I sent an email to the manager through the website I reserved our table with, with not so much as an apology. Unacceptable food and service.

That's a qualified 4, maybe with an asterisk. We've been once, a group of 4. It was phenomenal--food, service, ambience etc. But that was just once. I think that this is a place where they expect diners to not be looking to get in and out in an hour--instead, take more time with each course, etc--which may be part of the slower than expected (for some) service. Stabiler is a talented feeder of people, and aims to please. I think he may be trying to do too many things at once without the long standing staff to back him up.

I am hunched over from the massive meatball that is stuck in my belly zzzzzzzzzz.... This is a place you do not want to go to lunch to if you expect to be productive the remainder of the day. The Village bread was AWESOME. Also tried the Lobster Bisque. I could have drank a gallon of that stuff! The meatball poboy was the low point of the experience... I found that the meat was too ground and lacked texture. Did not really care for the taste of their seasoning . The french loaf was nice and crispy on the outside and chewy on the inside though. I will give this one a solid OK in my book.

For an Italian restaurant, Little Village has really, really poor Italian food. I tend to rate Italian places by how good their sauce is, and LV ranks at the bottom when compared to other Italian places in town. What's even worse is the fact that LV is on the pricier side, but the food doesn't reflect that price hike. While the bread here is good (8 bucks a loaf), it can sometimes be on the oily side. They used to give you a side of chopped olive (can't for my life remember the proper name for it) which now they charge you for. So you can spend 10 bucks on just bread. The prime ribeye is good here, although you must tell them to not leave it on the sizzling hot plate unless you want your medium rare ribeye to end up medium well by the time you finish half of it. Only other complaint about the ribeye is sometimes they pour way too much butter/oil over it. It's a prime steak... a little butter is fine but I dont want two centimeters worth of oil on my plate. I don't think I would come here for the food unless someone else was paying or I have a coupon/gift card. For the price, it's just not worth the mediocrity.

The LV should be called Frankenstein Village. We literally have ate all over the world and this by far the worst place to eat! The service was nonexistent and the server was very cold and condescending. Never checked on us but constantly passed our table without even looking in our direction. We passed on the $9 bread that you also had to pay an extra $3 for garlic. They wouldn't substitute a small cup of soup for a salad which was wilted boring and bland. My uncle ordered their prime rib and was told it came with horseradish and au jus. Didnt realize they dumped it all in the plate together completely masking the taste of the sides. The shrimp were not fresh and very bland. For garlic scampi you couldn't even tell if there was garlic on it. The veal dish: the toppings were cold and slightly nauseating. The pasta side dish was like someone took a bottle of ragu and put a few stands of pasta in it. Way to heavy on sauce. All and all everything was horrible and if we would have listened to yelp reviews we wouldn't have gone. Wayyyy over priced for garbage food. Prices don't match food. Will never go back.

Bottom Line: Trust the Yelp stars and run for it. I don't know how they have such good business (maybe $50 all you can eat lobster) but... Service: 0 I don't typically comment on service but... Service was so bad I almost felt like they made an effort to ignore people. The hostess looked at us like we were a glass window, and she and the manager were both very awkward. The waitress screwed up my salad order, and she second guessed my gf when she said she was missing a knife and started snooping around our table for the missing knife. The wait for service @ the table was forever. Our meal took 2.5 hours. The couple next to us came half an hour later and only were asked to order as our check arrived. Bread: 3 (has potential) The "legendary" bread was pretty good. Not legendary but it was definitely good. It was a big loaf that looks like a daily market bread but the outside was crispy and had toasted sesame seeds, while the inside was warm and soft. It was $9 for a loaf though, so beware of that. Sides of tapenade (chopped olives) & roasted garlic were $3.50 and $1.50 respectively. The tapenade was standard, but the garlic was not seasoned and didn't really taste like anything. The olive-oil parsley parmesan topping was good but the parmesan wasn't the best quality; it tasted like the Kraft canned kind. Certainly not on par with 9 bucks for bread. Osso Bucco + side: 4 The osso bucco was just perfectly cooked. The marrow melted in the mouth, as did the meat. Four stars for the tenderness; however the red sauce tasted like tomato puree with a bitter aftertaste. It came with a zucchini squash side with more red sauce. this red sauce was really good and should have been used for the osso bucco Wasn't worth its $40 but wasn't bad. GF's seafood salad: 0 $20 for a salad listed as having lump crabmeat, shrimp, and Maine lobster. Sounds exciting; however, it looked like supermarket food or food on a cruise ship, where every seafood ingredient is boiled in one big pot with no seasoning and was frozen. The salad was likely where the seafood defrosted... The "jumbo shrimp" was overcooked and shrunk to the size of dried shrimp that you see in instant noodles (Maruchan comes to mind) The lobster and lump crabmeat were good but minimal. There was lots of green, which was clearly packaged by Sysco. Andrea C. is right the food is terrible but the wine list wasn't bad. The GF had a good sauv blanc and my Chianti wasn't too bad. Again, it boggles the mind how this place has good business but definitely trust the stars and run for it.

I've eaten at this restaurant twice, about six months apart. Because of the rave reviews local gave it, after my first experience wasn't so great I decided to go back again. Big mistake. This last time was during Baton Rouge's restaurant week. Our waiter neither informed us of the special menu for restaurant week, nor any of the night's specials. We ended up finding the menu online on one of our smart phones and then asked him for a copy of the menu. Disappointing service when I'm paying $35 at least for my food alone. My significant other ordered off the restaurant week menu-an appetizer which reminded me of an Italian meatball with peas which was covered in rice and then deep fried, a swordfish steak with risotto and finally an almond liquor mousse. The appetizer had an interesting texture, but the flavor was good. My biggest complaint was that it was covered in red sauce, so much that it drowned out the meat. His swordfish was probably the most overcooked fish I've ever had. It had the texture of grits. The risotto was the same way-extremely overcooked. The mousse was fantastic and honestly the only part of the meal we finished. I ordered the shrimp scampi (again, overcooked-sensing a pattern?) that was so fishy even the overwhelming lemon in the sauce couldn't overpower it. I had fettuccine alfredo on the side which was overcooked and the sauce left much to be desired. I expected the rich, creamy sauce you get from good Italian restaurants. This one was very bland. I've also eaten at the Little Village downtown and had just as bad food-my lobster bisque was so fishy and salty I couldn't eat more than a bite, our pasta was again overcooked and the service left much to be desired. Overall, here is my advice. If you come here, do it on Thursdays for 1/2 off drinks (they do have a nice wine selection) and get the bread then have your dinner elsewhere. You'll be sadly disappointed with the food you get for the price you're going to pay for it.

Little Village is one of my favorite restaurants in Baton Rouge, but it does it in spite of the service. Lunch seems to be a little peppier, but service during a busy dinner time can be painfully slow. It would be laughable if it wasn't so frustrating - the cuisine is very traditional Italian fare, but it has always been very well executed. If the service levels could be raised a bit, this would be a solid 4-5 star review. A note about the bread. It is, granted, somewhat odd that they don't have a "standard" bread basket like most Italian places. However, to call the Village Bread a "crust of bread" that is offered free at other places is perhaps the most ridiculous thing I've read on Yelp. I wish it was free, but the best things in life seldom are. It is worth the price of admission - don't pass it up.

The other Little Village has always been great, and I tried this locationt for the first time. I had the seared tuna and lasagna- both winners at the downtown spot. The seared tuna app was overcooked and under seasoned. The lasagna was objectively okay, but paled in comparison to the downtown location's (which was phenomenal). I would dine in downtown instead of going to this location.

im only writing this because i think that other reviews i have read are a bit misleading.yes the village is a bit pricey but unless you just did not want italian to start with i cant see why you would look at the menu and decide not to eat. we have only eaten there once but our experience was a nice one. i could agree that one of our appetizers was a bit overloaded with butter. the good part about this was that it gave us something extra to dip our delicious bread in. our bread by the way was much more than a "crust of bread" and it was certainly worth the modest price. our server was exceptional, personable and knowlegeable. deserts were excellent and were generously portioned. we would certainly return and btw seagrams gin is one of the best selling gins in the world.

After years of hearing about this restaurant my husband and I finally decided to give it a try despite the low yelp review. Wow, was that a mistake. While the place looks nice and the service was very friendly those were the only upside to our dining experience. I take that back, the bread was good. Other than that, this place has nothing going for them. For appetizers we ordered the bread and manicotti. Bread was good but manicotti was just okay, not much flavor. For our entrees we ordered the Chicken Marsala and Sensation salad. While the salad looked nice the dressing was poor and lacking that didn't have much flavor at all. It may be that the server didn't stir this dressing well before serving but I am inclined to think it just has very little flavor due to the rest of our dining experience. The chicken Marsala was the biggest joke I have ever seen in all my dining out experiences. This was NOTHING but chicken with brown gravy (like a hamburger steak gravy) with a few mushrooms. There was no Marsala taste in this so called sauce at all!! Disappointing was an understatement. It was served with a side Caesar salad that my husband said was okay but I'm not really a fan so its hard for me to judge. It was also served with cheese and garlic mashed potatoes. I know we are in the south but I have never heard of spicy cheese and garlic mashed potatoes. They were okay but all you tasted was spice. I really didn't get a cheese or garlic flavor. They looked an orange color so you would assume there was some sort of cheese in them, you just couldn't taste them. Needless to say we declined dessert and choose to stop somewhere else to enjoy and fill up on some dessert. We decided this would be our only trip to The Little Village. I am definitely a lover of food; watching, cooking and definitely eating. I have no problem spending a lot of our hard earned money on food that is worth it. This, however, is WAY overpriced for the quality of food. If it wasn't for the service and over all look, this place would not get any stars.

My wife and I ate here and both got violently I'll. She had the cannelloni, I had chicken parmesan. The only thing we both ate was the arancini appetizer. It was not hot in the center and then we were both sick. Service sucked too. There was no one in the restaurant and still they could not take care of us. I will never return and I have spread the word to friends and family.

I couldn't bring myself to eat here when I went. After reviewing the menu, I politely declined and told the people I was with that I would be happy to sit with them while they ate. After reviewing the menu, they too decided this was not a good place to eat. The specials of the day sounded like a bunch of adjectives were added to an ordinary fish or chicken dish. The prices are waaaay up there considering the lower class appearance of this restaurant. You can order a crust of bread for about $5... something any decent italian restaurant offers you gratis. The menu itself is poorly made and really a turn off. On top of that, the waitstaff is very pushy and tries to upsell you on everything - even the water? Some of them are very creepy as well. There was one I kept calling Igor because his appearance reminded me of the character from the Frankenstein novel. We all lost our appetite after about 15 minutes of being in this ridiculous place. I wouldn't recommend it to anybody.

Service - Uh, None - Anywhere - Food? - Can't have that Okay, would you eat at a place that has 50 cent, 6 ounce martinis? Went there on Monday at 6:45pm - waited to be seated with another couple - no one is there - no one. Okay, walk to the bar - the other couple left. Sit down and the bartender asked me if we want martinis - I say sure - what are you pouring - Seagrams Gin - huh? I had no idea I had walked into the Prairieville alcoholics food shelter. Bartender serves our drinks - we ask to eat at the bar - he says fine. Five minutes later he moves us to a table in the bar area cuz apparently the "special" was over and their customers left. Customers? - that was the weirdest clan of skidrow bums mixed with toupped, gold nugget wearing hustlers - all gathered for one special reason - to re-energize their livers! Sat at the table, downed the seagrams, read the menu, never saw a waitress - walked to the bar - gave the guy a $20 (cuz he needed it bad) and left. Sidenote: When reviewing the menu maybe I was hallucinating from the once distilled gin but I could have sworn that I saw a side of bearnaise or hollandaise for $7 - $7? - either a misprint, hallucination or spaghetti sauce smudge. For comparison: Rathburns in Atlanta (Iron Chef) serves bearnaise or hollandaise for $1.50 - I know he's not as accomplished as Mama Little Village, but he's ok. I can't figure out why they have such a low overall rating. I've been a few times now and have always been pleased. The setting as a whole isn't as nice as downtown (probably because it's in a strip mall with not too much around), but it's good enough. I ordered the lasagna and my friend got a fettucini with chicken. The portions were good enough for both of us to have leftovers. I love their lasagna, nice and meaty and not overflowing with cheese. Parking is never an issue and they have very friendly servers.

This place is horrible. I went on a Friday night with no reservations so I expected a bit of a wait. When I arrived, I was told that the wait was about 45 minutes. I decided to wait because I heard it was a great place to eat ( never again will I believe my friends that think Olive Garden is tasty). An hour twenty minutes passed before I was able to get a seat (I even saw people that came after me with no reservations get seated before I did) After seating, it took the waiter 20 minutes to come take my drink orders and another 20 minutes to bring me a bottle of cab. I ordered the fried green tomatoes and was very disappointed. The tomatoes came out very soggy and lacking in seasoning. The bread which everyone raves about is just salty bread topped with cheese. I wouldn't even call it bread, I'd call it bready cheese. The appetizer came out surprisingly fast, but the entree took another 45 minutes after I was done with my meal. I didn't know a ribeye could take so long to cook. Perhaps they had to slaughter the cow too...... Also, you would think that the flavor would be outstanding if you had that long to cook. The steak was overcooked and very under seasoned. I did not dare ask for dessert. If you add it up: 1:20 seating time 0:40 drinks and appetizer 0:45 entree Thats 2 hours 45 min just in waiting time. Total dinner time was almost 3.5 hours total. That's longer than a 6 course with pairing from Stella! I may give it another chance as I don't shun restaurants after one bad experience. But for the price I paid, it will be a very long time before I return.

There is a photograph in the men's room of a 1930's era river scene - vey cool with some old ferries and lots of old cars. Unfortunately it appears the recipes for this "italian" restaurant were lifted from the trunk of one of those 1930's cars. We attended a dinner with a group of friends - the dinner took nearly four hours which was saved by the company. The food seems a bit old and incongruous. For instance - I ordered rack of lamb which was delivered drowned in some 1960's red wine reduction, while the person across from me had Fish and Chips??? Each of course was offered with spaghetti... I would definitely opt for the nearby Ruffino's if again driving this far into the Baton Rouge and looking for some italian food.

We visited this restaurant after saying we would not return, but a family member chose to have a birthday dinner there. Reservations were at 7:00; table of 9. Dinner was brought to the table at 9:00 -- 2 hours later!! When served, someone got their steak but their baked potato arrived well after the steak was eaten. A couple of us ordered speckled trout. It was not edible as it was very overlooked and was rubbery. Considering menu prices, we will NOT be back! Our waiter was pleasant and did the best he could, but the kitchen needs a major shakeup!

I'm surprised at the low reviews since every time we have been to this restaurant they are always packed. And the filet mignon must be the best kept secret of Baton Rouge. If you are looking for a juicy, flavorful, tender melt in your mouth steak..look no further. Seriously the meat is so tender and juicy you can cut it with a butter knife. The flavor is far superior to any other steak out there- dare I say to even the biggest Ruth's fans. The steak is served with your choice of salad (the house is a delicious choice if you enjoy olives) and a side so the 35.00 is well worth every penny. And let's not forget about their bread. I have to admit I am not a bread lover and I usually will forgo any other bread offerings in other restaurants but I am more than willing to pay for a loaf of this amazing tasting bread with Parmesan cheese and oils. The gumbo is another must try and the bread pudding is out of this world. The atmosphere is warm and inviting and I love their music selections. While the majority of the servers are far superior to other restaurants there are a couple that exceeded even my high expectations. Chris is the best of the best. Warm and friendly and he will take care of you like the king or queen you believe yourself to be. We always book reservations in advance to ensure we have a booth and to request Chris as our server. They consistently provide amazing food and service-Hats off to the chefs and staff.

I've eaten at The Little Village, both locations, a few times with no issues, but tonight was a little messy. We had a group of 6 ladies and sat in the bar. The bartender told us he wasn't able to serve tables in the bar anymore and we would be waited on by a server from the dining room. It took about 10 minutes for our server, Clarence to get to us. We all asked for waters while we looked over drinks. Two waters came to the table. I had to ask twice more for water. Drinks took awhile even though there were only two other tables in the bar. Dinner went off without a hitch, minus a little spotty service, which I guess I can understand if it was a crazy busy night but it was a Tuesday.... I did notice that when we ordered "the bread" it came with roasted garlic and olive tapenade without us asking, and if I remember correctly, they are both extras that we were not asked if we wanted. A good thing about Little Village is that they carry gluten free pasta, although they don't advertise it anywhere. Food was good, drinks were good, but when I asked for my check to sneak out a little early, he ended up bringing everyone's check, even though they were not done with their drinks and were planning on ordering more. I thought my gluten free pasta w/shrimp and one glass of wine came out to be VERY expensive (my check was for $38) but gave a large tip anyway and after we had signed our bills, one of the ladies said "oh, it looks like tip was already included!".... so Clarence got around $16 in tips from each of us because we were unaware of their party/gratuity rule. Hope you enjoyed that, buddy. So I guess my okay review is based on service, not food or atmosphere. We'll probably be back as it's so close to our neighborhood, but will watch out for sneak attack tips next time!

So my family decided to go here for my step fathers birthday. We got the bread. which comes with garlic and that olive stuff. no our waiter didn't tell us that those cost extra-they just put it on the plate.The bread is really good though. between 6 people we ate the full loaf. We all got a salad. i got a caesar salad. It wasn't anything great. my mom got the sensation salad and she loved it. So i was debating on a white sauce vs. a red sauce pasta for my meal. everyone got white sauce mostly but the waiter raved about the red sauce. so i tried the eggplant parmigiana or however you spell it. Eggplant was pretty good but i wasn't a fan on the red sauce on the pasta. Everyone seemed to like what they got. my boyfriend got shrimp Alfredo. For dessert we got the white chocolate bread pudding. OMG it was great. seriously.... so great. during the meal we had a few cocktails. Loved the raspberry lemonade martini. wasn't a fan of the Bellini but my step brothers girlfriend liked it. i would only come back if a group asked me to go but i wouldnt have a date night or girls night here.

We came here for Mother's Day, with four mothers in our party. We had reservations, which meant there wasn't a long wait for them to pull our tables together and seat us in the bar area. Lunch started with Bloody Marys and Mimosas as we looked over the special menu they had prepared for the day. Village bread with tapenade and roasted garlic (both extra) was ordered to start. That was soon followed by the Sensation salad which comes with the entree. My wife ordered the Artic sea bass topped with lump crabmeat and a side vegetable. I ordered the lasagna topped with a red gravy. The food was good, nothing extraordinary. The conclusion of the meal was free white chocolate bread pudding for the mothers. The service was decent although it seemed slow, even taking into account the restaurant was full for the special day.

Food was terrible. One star because our waiter was pretty decent, even though I asked for my salad with the red vinaigrette and received the same salad my boyfriend got sans the croutons (he ordered a Caesar). Got in 45 minutes before closing and it was clear they were ready to leave. The hostess made it a point to tell us they close at ten. When our food came, my eggplant parmesan was drenched in sauce. I had to find my eggplant to decipher where that was as opposed to my spaghetti noodles. Once I finally found the eggplant, I could hardly cut through it, they were ao tough. Like they sped through the cooking process. My boyfriend ordered a ribeye steak that was so tough he was still chewing on his first bite as we left. And the side of mashed potatoes was reminiscent of hospital cuisine. He literally left more than 3/4 of that overpriced steak on the plate. No to go box. No thank you. Little village is an utter disappointment.

This is my first review. I'm not a complainer, but this needs to be heard. Was excited to try this place! I had dinner here on a Saturday night. We were told we HAD to try the bread, and so we did. It tasted good and 2 of us ate the whole half a loaf (for an extra cost- shouldn't bread be free?). Anyways, we ordered our food and now I know what the other reviews mean by it being very slow, we even took into a consideration that it was a saturday night. By the time our food came it had been 45 min or so since we ate the bread, both of our stomachs started hurting. We didn't think much of it so we ate our meals. By the end my stomach hurt so bad I couldn't even touch the side or dessert I ordered. I didn't eat much so I knew it wasn't because I overate. I just thought maybe I was getting sick. After being home for an hour or so with an upset stomach, my entire $40 dinner had made its way out of my stomach just the way it came in. I hate getting sick, but this was my only option, and sure enough I felt like a million bucks after. They say when you get sick, whatever you taste the most is probably what made you sick. Well, all I tasted was the mountain of parmesan cheese they piled on the bread. I decided later that maybe I should call and let them know, just in case they were using bad/expired cheese or oil. I asked to speak with a manager who from the beginning sounded rude. I explained what happened, and she cut me off saying it was probably something I ate before coming in. So she right away blamed the customer. Then I told her again, I was calling just so they could maybe go check. I was being nicer than she was, and she blamed me again by saying nobody else called having the same problem and that everything on their part was perfect. It was maybe a 20 second conversation tops. She was rude and very short with me. I never once blamed the restaurant, but I got blamed twice as the customer. TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE... even over the phone!!!! I will not be back. Plenty of other Italian restaurants with much better food AND service.

I usually never write reviews, but I felt compelled after last nights HORRIBLE dinner. My daughter graduated from LSU yesterday, so we had reservations for 13. Although the waiter was friendly and curtiouse, the food was horrible. The calamari appetizers had a foul smell to them like they had gone bad and most importantly there texture was way off. The raviolis also tasted like the were previously frozen and flash fried. A couple of my guest had the fish which also was not good. It really looked exactly like the Tilapia filets that Sams sells. My wife ordered the eggplant Parmesan and she actually sent it back and did not eat. Also, the asparagus on the fillet minion/soft shell crab special tasted boiled and the crab was not fried correctly. I walked away paying over $500 dollars for last nights dinner and was extremely disappointed in the quality of food. Stay away!!!!

One of the best steaks I have ever had in my life has been the Filet Palermo from Little Village. Holy yummy, is it amazing! Although I do not think it is on the actual menu any longer, they will definitely let you order it--which I highly recommend you should:) I also freaking loooove their bread and could pretty much eat that entire loaf of buttery Parmesan goodness. My husband's pasta dish was also super-yummy, along with some awesome green beans and mashed taters. We've been twice and loved the service and meals both times--definitely plan to be back again and again, as it is luckily located near our house. The atmosphere is pretty decent, kinda romantic, but nothing extraordinary, really. You are paying for the great food and service. Highly recommend!

I've eaten here twice. First time was great , second time was a nightmare. I built this place up, and they quickly proved me wrong to my guests. My date, my childhood friend , and his date were all looking forward to a nice meal , and good conversation . We were seated quickly, and our order was taken. All 4 drinks came at different times , of 3 appetizers, one was forgotten , one was cold. After forgetting our second round of drinks , the waiter brought our food at different times. Once again forgetting 3 of the 4 orders of garlic mashed potatoes. The worst 400$ service I've ever had. Will not be back since I sent an email to the manager through the website I reserved our table with, with not so much as an apology. Unacceptable food and service.

That's a qualified 4, maybe with an asterisk. We've been once, a group of 4. It was phenomenal--food, service, ambience etc. But that was just once. I think that this is a place where they expect diners to not be looking to get in and out in an hour--instead, take more time with each course, etc--which may be part of the slower than expected (for some) service. Stabiler is a talented feeder of people, and aims to please. I think he may be trying to do too many things at once without the long standing staff to back him up.

Our family lives this restaurant! Their marinara sauce is excellent and can be bought to take home! If pasta isn't your thing the restaurant has wonderful fish dishes ! The wine list is excellent and has a wide selection ! We have never been unhappy with the food or service here!!

Overpriced and all the food is drowned in butter and oil. The ingredients might be great but unfortunately you cannot taste anything over the richness of the sauces. This place tries way too hard to be upscale; but it fails miserably. It's small-town BS at its worst.

I am hunched over from the massive meatball that is stuck in my belly zzzzzzzzzz.... This is a place you do not want to go to lunch to if you expect to be productive the remainder of the day. The Village bread was AWESOME. Also tried the Lobster Bisque. I could have drank a gallon of that stuff! The meatball poboy was the low point of the experience... I found that the meat was too ground and lacked texture. Did not really care for the taste of their seasoning . The french loaf was nice and crispy on the outside and chewy on the inside though. I will give this one a solid OK in my book.

For an Italian restaurant, Little Village has really, really poor Italian food. I tend to rate Italian places by how good their sauce is, and LV ranks at the bottom when compared to other Italian places in town. What's even worse is the fact that LV is on the pricier side, but the food doesn't reflect that price hike. While the bread here is good (8 bucks a loaf), it can sometimes be on the oily side. They used to give you a side of chopped olive (can't for my life remember the proper name for it) which now they charge you for. So you can spend 10 bucks on just bread. The prime ribeye is good here, although you must tell them to not leave it on the sizzling hot plate unless you want your medium rare ribeye to end up medium well by the time you finish half of it. Only other complaint about the ribeye is sometimes they pour way too much butter/oil over it. It's a prime steak... a little butter is fine but I dont want two centimeters worth of oil on my plate. I don't think I would come here for the food unless someone else was paying or I have a coupon/gift card. For the price, it's just not worth the mediocrity.

The LV should be called Frankenstein Village. We literally have ate all over the world and this by far the worst place to eat! The service was nonexistent and the server was very cold and condescending. Never checked on us but constantly passed our table without even looking in our direction. We passed on the $9 bread that you also had to pay an extra $3 for garlic. They wouldn't substitute a small cup of soup for a salad which was wilted boring and bland. My uncle ordered their prime rib and was told it came with horseradish and au jus. Didnt realize they dumped it all in the plate together completely masking the taste of the sides. The shrimp were not fresh and very bland. For garlic scampi you couldn't even tell if there was garlic on it. The veal dish: the toppings were cold and slightly nauseating. The pasta side dish was like someone took a bottle of ragu and put a few stands of pasta in it. Way to heavy on sauce. All and all everything was horrible and if we would have listened to yelp reviews we wouldn't have gone. Wayyyy over priced for garbage food. Prices don't match food. Will never go back.

Bottom Line: Trust the Yelp stars and run for it. I don't know how they have such good business (maybe $50 all you can eat lobster) but... Service: 0 I don't typically comment on service but... Service was so bad I almost felt like they made an effort to ignore people. The hostess looked at us like we were a glass window, and she and the manager were both very awkward. The waitress screwed up my salad order, and she second guessed my gf when she said she was missing a knife and started snooping around our table for the missing knife. The wait for service @ the table was forever. Our meal took 2.5 hours. The couple next to us came half an hour later and only were asked to order as our check arrived. Bread: 3 (has potential) The "legendary" bread was pretty good. Not legendary but it was definitely good. It was a big loaf that looks like a daily market bread but the outside was crispy and had toasted sesame seeds, while the inside was warm and soft. It was $9 for a loaf though, so beware of that. Sides of tapenade (chopped olives) & roasted garlic were $3.50 and $1.50 respectively. The tapenade was standard, but the garlic was not seasoned and didn't really taste like anything. The olive-oil parsley parmesan topping was good but the parmesan wasn't the best quality; it tasted like the Kraft canned kind. Certainly not on par with 9 bucks for bread. Osso Bucco + side: 4 The osso bucco was just perfectly cooked. The marrow melted in the mouth, as did the meat. Four stars for the tenderness; however the red sauce tasted like tomato puree with a bitter aftertaste. It came with a zucchini squash side with more red sauce. this red sauce was really good and should have been used for the osso bucco Wasn't worth its $40 but wasn't bad. GF's seafood salad: 0 $20 for a salad listed as having lump crabmeat, shrimp, and Maine lobster. Sounds exciting; however, it looked like supermarket food or food on a cruise ship, where every seafood ingredient is boiled in one big pot with no seasoning and was frozen. The salad was likely where the seafood defrosted... The "jumbo shrimp" was overcooked and shrunk to the size of dried shrimp that you see in instant noodles (Maruchan comes to mind) The lobster and lump crabmeat were good but minimal. There was lots of green, which was clearly packaged by Sysco. Andrea C. is right the food is terrible but the wine list wasn't bad. The GF had a good sauv blanc and my Chianti wasn't too bad. Again, it boggles the mind how this place has good business but definitely trust the stars and run for it.

I've eaten at this restaurant twice, about six months apart. Because of the rave reviews local gave it, after my first experience wasn't so great I decided to go back again. Big mistake. This last time was during Baton Rouge's restaurant week. Our waiter neither informed us of the special menu for restaurant week, nor any of the night's specials. We ended up finding the menu online on one of our smart phones and then asked him for a copy of the menu. Disappointing service when I'm paying $35 at least for my food alone. My significant other ordered off the restaurant week menu-an appetizer which reminded me of an Italian meatball with peas which was covered in rice and then deep fried, a swordfish steak with risotto and finally an almond liquor mousse. The appetizer had an interesting texture, but the flavor was good. My biggest complaint was that it was covered in red sauce, so much that it drowned out the meat. His swordfish was probably the most overcooked fish I've ever had. It had the texture of grits. The risotto was the same way-extremely overcooked. The mousse was fantastic and honestly the only part of the meal we finished. I ordered the shrimp scampi (again, overcooked-sensing a pattern?) that was so fishy even the overwhelming lemon in the sauce couldn't overpower it. I had fettuccine alfredo on the side which was overcooked and the sauce left much to be desired. I expected the rich, creamy sauce you get from good Italian restaurants. This one was very bland. I've also eaten at the Little Village downtown and had just as bad food-my lobster bisque was so fishy and salty I couldn't eat more than a bite, our pasta was again overcooked and the service left much to be desired. Overall, here is my advice. If you come here, do it on Thursdays for 1/2 off drinks (they do have a nice wine selection) and get the bread then have your dinner elsewhere. You'll be sadly disappointed with the food you get for the price you're going to pay for it.

Little Village is one of my favorite restaurants in Baton Rouge, but it does it in spite of the service. Lunch seems to be a little peppier, but service during a busy dinner time can be painfully slow. It would be laughable if it wasn't so frustrating - the cuisine is very traditional Italian fare, but it has always been very well executed. If the service levels could be raised a bit, this would be a solid 4-5 star review. A note about the bread. It is, granted, somewhat odd that they don't have a "standard" bread basket like most Italian places. However, to call the Village Bread a "crust of bread" that is offered free at other places is perhaps the most ridiculous thing I've read on Yelp. I wish it was free, but the best things in life seldom are. It is worth the price of admission - don't pass it up.

The other Little Village has always been great, and I tried this locationt for the first time. I had the seared tuna and lasagna- both winners at the downtown spot. The seared tuna app was overcooked and under seasoned. The lasagna was objectively okay, but paled in comparison to the downtown location's (which was phenomenal). I would dine in downtown instead of going to this location.

im only writing this because i think that other reviews i have read are a bit misleading.yes the village is a bit pricey but unless you just did not want italian to start with i cant see why you would look at the menu and decide not to eat. we have only eaten there once but our experience was a nice one. i could agree that one of our appetizers was a bit overloaded with butter. the good part about this was that it gave us something extra to dip our delicious bread in. our bread by the way was much more than a "crust of bread" and it was certainly worth the modest price. our server was exceptional, personable and knowlegeable. deserts were excellent and were generously portioned. we would certainly return and btw seagrams gin is one of the best selling gins in the world.

After years of hearing about this restaurant my husband and I finally decided to give it a try despite the low yelp review. Wow, was that a mistake. While the place looks nice and the service was very friendly those were the only upside to our dining experience. I take that back, the bread was good. Other than that, this place has nothing going for them. For appetizers we ordered the bread and manicotti. Bread was good but manicotti was just okay, not much flavor. For our entrees we ordered the Chicken Marsala and Sensation salad. While the salad looked nice the dressing was poor and lacking that didn't have much flavor at all. It may be that the server didn't stir this dressing well before serving but I am inclined to think it just has very little flavor due to the rest of our dining experience. The chicken Marsala was the biggest joke I have ever seen in all my dining out experiences. This was NOTHING but chicken with brown gravy (like a hamburger steak gravy) with a few mushrooms. There was no Marsala taste in this so called sauce at all!! Disappointing was an understatement. It was served with a side Caesar salad that my husband said was okay but I'm not really a fan so its hard for me to judge. It was also served with cheese and garlic mashed potatoes. I know we are in the south but I have never heard of spicy cheese and garlic mashed potatoes. They were okay but all you tasted was spice. I really didn't get a cheese or garlic flavor. They looked an orange color so you would assume there was some sort of cheese in them, you just couldn't taste them. Needless to say we declined dessert and choose to stop somewhere else to enjoy and fill up on some dessert. We decided this would be our only trip to The Little Village. I am definitely a lover of food; watching, cooking and definitely eating. I have no problem spending a lot of our hard earned money on food that is worth it. This, however, is WAY overpriced for the quality of food. If it wasn't for the service and over all look, this place would not get any stars.

My wife and I ate here and both got violently I'll. She had the cannelloni, I had chicken parmesan. The only thing we both ate was the arancini appetizer. It was not hot in the center and then we were both sick. Service sucked too. There was no one in the restaurant and still they could not take care of us. I couldn't bring myself to eat here when I went. After reviewing the menu, I politely declined and told the people I was with that I would be happy to sit with them while they ate. After reviewing the menu, they too decided this was not a good place to eat. The specials of the day sounded like a bunch of adjectives were added to an ordinary fish or chicken dish. The prices are waaaay up there considering the lower class appearance of this restaurant. You can order a crust of bread for about $5... something any decent italian restaurant offers you gratis. The menu itself is poorly made and really a turn off. On top of that, the waitstaff is very pushy and tries to upsell you on everything - even the water? Some of them are very creepy as well. There was one I kept calling Igor because his appearance reminded me of the character from the Frankenstein novel. We all lost our appetite after about 15 minutes of being in this ridiculous place. I wouldn't recommend it to anybody.

Terrible service. Food isn't as good as one downtown. Given the place a few tries but it just doesn't live up to the hype. Extremely disappointed. (I'd give it zero but it makes me give at least 1 star to leave review.)

Had a nice family dinner on Sunday night. Good food, good wine, good service. Seafood Fra Diablo was tasy and spicy as the waiter advised. Beef manicotti app and seafood salad were wonderful, arroncine was lovely. It is a bit pricey though!

Service - Uh, None - Anywhere - Food? - Can't have that Okay, would you eat at a place that has 50 cent, 6 ounce martinis? Went there on Monday at 6:45pm - waited to be seated with another couple - no one is there - no one. Okay, walk to the bar - the other couple left. Sit down and the bartender asked me if we want martinis - I say sure - what are you pouring - Seagrams Gin - huh? I had no idea I had walked into the Prairieville alcoholics food shelter. Bartender serves our drinks - we ask to eat at the bar - he says fine. Five minutes later he moves us to a table in the bar area cuz apparently the "special" was over and their customers left. Customers? - that was the weirdest clan of skidrow bums mixed with toupped, gold nugget wearing hustlers - all gathered for one special reason - to re-energize their livers! Sat at the table, downed the seagrams, read the menu, never saw a waitress - walked to the bar - gave the guy a $20 (cuz he needed it bad) and left. Sidenote: When reviewing the menu maybe I was hallucinating from the once distilled gin but I could have sworn that I saw a side of bearnaise or hollandaise for $7 - $7? - either a misprint, hallucination or spaghetti sauce smudge. For comparison: Rathburns in Atlanta (Iron Chef) serves bearnaise or hollandaise for $1.50 - I know he's not as accomplished as Mama Little Village, but he's ok. Owners: 50 cent martinis Haul in the trash and Scare off the staff ! This place is obviously dying - Owners: I would suggest putting a key in the door.

This resteraunt has a decent setup. The wait staff was nice and proffesional but the food tonight for the price was very sub-par. This was my second time there and don't remember the forst time being this bad.
